1.) The first day of school (fully remote) is tomorrow, Thursday, September 3, 2020.
2.) Parents /guardians will NOT be posting daily attendance in Genesis.
3.) Students will log their daily attendance each school day by 7:45 AM. 4.) Teachers will be posting class attendance in Genesis each school day.
5.) Friday, September 4th will be a live video conference day for students.
6.) Students should only join the Google Classrooms of their current classes.
7.) It is important that you discuss with your child/children the following expectations during live lessons each school day.
Student Expectations for Zoom/Meet Sessions:
Students will …
• Use their WTSD Google account for Zoom/Meet.
• Be expected to be present on camera and audio and participate in all daily lessons/instruction.
• Be on time for meetings and have a fully charged device (or device will be plugged in).
• Respect that learning is happening here. Be kind and polite!
• Not record or take pictures of the meetings.
• Not share any Meet/Zoom link with anyone.
• Not post or stream video meetings to any social media accounts.
• Use the chat feature to communicate with the teacher.
• Use earbuds or headphones for meetings, if the learning environment is not a quiet one.
• Establish learning areas within their home. These areas will have all the materials needed
for their instructional school day. This area also will be quiet and free from unnecessary
distractions. Please try and stay in one area for the duration of the meeting times. Teachers will
work with parents to help, as not everyone has distraction-free zones.
• Join the meeting independently (without other family members or others/pets) unless the
teacher invites specific guests to a meeting, or the student needs help logging/signing on.
• Come dressed appropriately for the day.
• Be removed from the meeting if the behavior is inappropriate and disciplinary action may be
taken if needed.
• Be expected to do the work themselves. If a student is struggling the teacher and guidance counselor
should be notified and extra help will be offered.
• Follow all school rules and policies
Parent/Guardian Understandings for Zoom/Meet Sessions:
In order to establish a learning environment that is aligned to the in-person learning environments at school, all parents and guardians are asked to observe the following guidelines that support the best interests of our students and teachers:
• No one should record or take pictures of meetings.
• No one should share any Zoom or Meet link with anyone.
• No one should post or stream any meetings on social media.
•Meet/Zoom meetings are an extension of the classroom. Students should be dressed
appropriately.
• Only the students in the class interact with the teacher during instructional time.
• Parents understand that when students are in a breakout session, they may not be monitored by
the teacher and students will be held responsible for any inappropriate behaviors.
• Depending on the student’s age level, parents may need to be involved in the set-up of the
meeting or available for technical assistance, but parents should not be actively involved in the
meeting.
• All classroom and school rules are to be followed.
• Attendance will be taken on Zoom/Meet by the teachers and posted to Genesis as class attendance. Cameras should be on in order for students to be marked present and students must participate for full credit.
We look forward to the start of perhaps the most unique school year yet. As always, thank YOU for your patience, support and understanding as we begin the 2020–2021 school year. I look forward to an amazing year that we will all remember as we work as a team and as one unit, staff, students and families, to ensure that we get our students on track and learning!
Be safe and stay #avenelstrong.
