November 9, 2020
Dear Avenel Middle School Families:
As you know, today, November 9, 2020, has been a fully remote instructional day so we can assess our staff to determine if hybrid instruction is possible moving forward.
After careful consideration, we have determined that we have a large number of staff who will need to quarantine due to close contact or due to travel. As a result, we will not be able to offer hybrid instruction until at least Monday, November 23rd. The need to quarantine for those individuals is a must. Please keep in mind that symptoms can occur for a period of 14 days after contact with an infected individual. Regardless of having a Negative Covid-19 test result, the individual must still quarantine.
Our teachers will continue to provide fully remote instruction. The date listed above is an anticipated date. However, should conditions change, we will be sending more information as we receive it.
Those families who are participating in the meal distribution program will still be able to pick up those meals at any school.
We ask that in turn our families continue to monitor their children daily for symptoms of the virus, as well as keeping the school informed in the event symptoms develop within your household.
We will continue to work as a community to ensure that continuity of remote instruction is provided during this difficult time for all. Our district will also continue to apply the best practices and recommendations of the Woodbridge Health Department in school events that bring our community together, helping to ensure the safety of all.
Be safe and stay #avenelstrong.

No students will learn in-person on this day. On the morning of November 9th we will evaluate our staffing to determine if our school can continue with our hybrid schedule or remain fully remote for a period of time. You will be notified as soon as this decision is made.

WTSD Travel Guidance
Domestic Travel:
During the COVID-19 Pandemic, a fourteen (14)-day quarantine travel advisory announced by the Governors of New Jersey, New York and Connecticut, is in effect until further notice. Individuals traveling to or returning to New Jersey from states with increasing rates of COVID-19 are advised to self- quarantine for 14 days. This includes travel by train, bus, car, plane and any other method of transportation. The 14-day quarantine travel advisory applies to travel from certain states identified as those that have a positive COVID-19 test rate higher than 10 per 100,000 residents or have a ten percent (10%) or higher positivity rate over a seven-day rolling average ("impacted states"). This advisory is updated regularly by the State of New Jersey, and may be found at the following link:
https://covid19.nj.gov/faqs/nj-information/travel-and-transportation/which-states-are-on-the-travel- advisory-list-are-there-travel-restrictions-to-or-from-new-jersey
Foreign Travel:
In addition, any person that has traveled outside of the United States, and has traveled to any country that is considered on the international list of countries that are Level 3-High Risk, must also quarantine for 14 days prior to entering the school building. Again, please check the most up-to-date list before traveling.
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/map-and-travel-notices.html
Travelers and residents returning from impacted states or countries should self-quarantine at their home. Individuals should only leave the place of self-quarantine to seek medical care/treatment or to obtain food and other essential items.
Exclusion from School Buildings During Quarantine:
The Woodbridge Board of Education in an effort to keep our school and community COVID free and safe will require ALL STUDENT(S) AND STAFF MEMBERS who have traveled to any state, territory, or country that has been listed on the state/territory advisory list or the Level 3 High Risk International List to quarantine for fourteen (14) calendar days prior to entering any Woodbridge Township School District building. Please note that this also includes traveling to any of these locations during scheduled school district breaks and vacations. If any student, parent/guardian, or staff member chooses to travel to a state or country that is on the advisory list at the time of travel, they will be expected to quarantine for 14 days upon their return.
Please also note that these lists are fluid and are changed daily, and these changes must be adhered to. This is for the safety of our entire community. Truth and honesty is expected for the health and wellness of our staff, students, and their families.
Students:
Parents/guardians MUST make arrangements for their child(ren) to continue school for the 14 days of quarantine as REMOTE ONLY. The students will not be permitted into school during this time. If the child attends their classes REMOTELY, these days will not count against their absences. However, if the student misses remote instruction during a vacation or subsequent quarantine, these days will count as unexcused absences.
