AMS February Spirit Days
We hope your 2024 is off to a great start! Here's what's been going on at AMS over the past few weeks, and a few items for the future.
Our Girls and Boys basketball teams completed successful seasons. Our girls team played hard every game and put forth their best effort each and every day! Our Boys team did the same, making the semifinals in the playoffs. We congratulate Coach Kroner and Coach Siswo and are appreciative of all they have done for our student athletes. Next up for sports, is Boys and Girls Bowling, which will begin on Wednesday, January 31, 2024.
Earlier this month we held our Band and Chorus Winter Concert. It was a great evening where many students, staff, and parents were able to enjoy the performance. Congratulations to Mr. Leidner, our band director, and Mr. Competello, our chorus director, on a successful performance!
Over the next few weeks, (1/22 - 2/14) our Student Council will be collecting items for Mayor McCormac's "Have a Heart Food Drive" which will be donated to local food pantries. Items needed are:
Peanut Butter, jelly, pancake syrup, pancake mix, crackers
Cereal, coffee, juice, pasta, pasta sauce, can fruit, rice
Canned pasta, tuna, instant potatoes, cookies, can meat
Powder milk, mac & cheese, paper products
Shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, body soap
Personal hygiene products, laundry detergent
Currently our Guidance counselors are working with our 8th grade students to schedule classes for 9th grade at their respective High Schools (Colonia and Woodbridge High School). Both CHS and WHS visited with our 8th grade students to orient them to the various classes offered for incoming 9th graders next school year. You can also find information on High School courses by visiting the WTSD website and looking under the curriculum tab, and perusing the High School Program of Studies booklet. In February, our counselors will begin working on schedules with our current 6th and 7th graders for the 2024-25 school year. If you have any questions regarding scheduling please reach out to your child's guidance counselor.
Bowling Physicals are due by Monday, 1/8/24. Physicals for Volleyball and Cross Country are due by Monday, 3/11/24.

This is just a reminder that Friday, 12/22/23 is an early dismissal and lunch will not be served. Students will be dismissed from school at 12:45 p.m. Winter recess will be from 12/23/23 - 1/1/24. School will resume on Tuesday, 1/2/24.

AMS Guidance Night
December Spirit Week
Our basketball season opens up on Thursday, November 30th. Below are a few protocols that students/spectators must follow if they plan on attending the game.
Students must leave school property at dismissal. The doors for the game will open for families and students at 3:50 p.m. All spectators must enter through door # 4 by the gym. If the visiting team arrives on time, the game will start at 4 p.m.
Students must have their Avenel Middle School I.D. on them in order to enter.
Spectators are limited to current AMS students, the visiting team's students, and the families of players.
No food or drink is permitted in the gymnasium.
Games end approximately at 5:00 p.m. If you are picking up your child from the game, please be prompt.
